商务英语常见误译例析




笔者在商务英语教学中发现,外贸英语中有一些使用十分频繁的词汇很容易被误译,原因是商务英语中相同的单词在不同情况下具有不同的含义。现将这些单词的不同用法和含义试加比较说明。   例一:floating      It is not surprising, then, that the world saw a return to a floating exchange rate system. Central banks were no longer required to support their own currencies.   Floating policy is of great importance for export trade; it is, in fact, a convenient method of insuring goods where a number of similar export transactions are intended, e.g. where the insured has to supply an overseas importer under an exclusive sales agreement or maintains sales representatives or subsidiary companies abroad.      译文:   在这种情况下,世界各国又恢复浮动汇率就不足为奇了。各国中央银行也就无须维持本币的汇价了。   统保单对出口贸易至关重要。它实际上是货物保险中的一种便利的办法,特别适合于分不同的时间出口的一批类似货物,如,当被保险方根据独家代理协议书向国外的进口方供货,或在国外委任了销售代表,设立分支机构时用之。      注解:   floating 在上述两个句中的意思完全不一样,floating exchange rate 意为“浮动汇率”,即可自由浮动,完全受市场力量决定的汇率制度。而 floating policy 则指用以承保多批次货运的一种持续性长期保险凭证,常译为“统保单”。      例二:confirm      We'd like to inform you that our counter sample will be sent to you by DHL by the end of this week and please confirm it ASAP so that we can start our mass production.   Payment will be made by 100% confirmed, irrevocable Letter of Credit available by sight draft。      译文:   很高兴通知您,我们的回样将于本周末用特快专递给您,请尽快确认,以便我们开始大批生产。   付款方式为100% 即期,保兑,不可撤消信用证。      注解:   confirmed 一词在这两句话的意思也不一样。在第一个句子中,confirm 的意思是“确认”。在第二个句子中,confirmed L/C 应翻译为“保兑信用证”,即指一家银行所开的由另一家银行保证兑付的一种银行信用证。      例三:negotiable      Part time barman required.Hours and salary negotiable.   This Bill of Lading is issued in a negotiable form, so it shall constitute title to the goods and the holder, by endorsement of this B/L.      译文:   招聘兼职酒店保安,工作时间和薪水面议。   所签发的提单可为转让的,故只要在提单上背书, 便确定了货物和持票人的所有权。      注解:   在第一句话中,negotiable 的意思是“可商议的”,在第二句话中的意思则是“可转让的”,“可转让提单”经过背书后即可将所有权转让给他人,值得注意的是,negotiating bank 则是议付银行,即购买或贴现汇票的银行。      例四:discount      You may get a 5% discount if your order is on a regular basis.   If a seller extends credit to a time draft, they have made a trade acceptance.The seller can request that the bank finance the transaction by buying the draft.The bank is said to discount the draft.      译文:   如果你方定期给我方下定单,你方便可得到 5% 的折扣。   如卖方开出的是远期汇票,以此向买方提供信用,此时就做了一笔商业汇票承兑业务,卖方可以请银行买下商业承兑汇票,银行用这个办法对出口商融资,也就是说,银行对该汇票贴现了。      注解:   discount 在这两句话中的意思一个是折扣,另一个是贴现。折扣是指商品在原价的基础上按百分比降价,贴现则是指未到期的票据向银行融资,银行扣取自买进日至到期日的利息,并收取一定的手续费后,将余下的票面金额付给持票人。      例五:endorse      Our products have been endorsed by the National Quality Inspection Association.   Draft must be accompanied by full set original on board marine Bill off Lading made out to order,endorsed in blank,marked freight prepaid.      译文:   我们的产品为全国质量检查协会的推荐产品。  汇票必须附有全套印有“货物收讫”字样的正本海运提单,凭指示、空白背书,并写明“运费已付”。      注解:   在第一个句子中,“推荐”是指用过某种产品后感到满意,并通过媒体介绍给公众。而第二句中的“空白背书明是指背书人 (endorser) 只在票据背面签上自己的名字,而不注明特定的被背书人 (endorsee)。      例六:average      If a particular cargo Is partially damaged,the damage is called particular average.   It's obvious that the products are below the average quality.      译文:   如果某批货是部分受损,我们称之为“单独海损”。   很明显,这批产品的品质是中下水平。      注解:   在第一个句子中,particular average 的意思是“单独海损”,是指在保险业中由于海上事故所导致的部分损失, 因此average 一词的意思是损失或损坏,而第二句中的average 为“平均”之意。      例七:tender      Under CIF, it is the seller's obligation to tender the relative documents to the buyer to enable him to obtain delivery of the goods. If they arrive, or to recover for the loss, if they are lost on the voyage.   He became as exhilarated as if his tender for building a mansion had been accepted.      译文:   在 CIF 价格术语项下,卖方的责任是向买方递交有关单证,使其能在货物到达后提取货物;如果货物运输途中丢失了,买方也可凭单证去获取补偿。   他欣喜若狂,好象他承办大厦建筑的投标被接受了。      注解:   商务英语中的重要条款用词非常正规,在第一句话中,tender 是用作动词,相当于give。而在第二句中,tender 是用作名词,意思是“投标”。

商务对话进出口贸易

Along with the standard procedures set up for import/export businesses, Western companies (and most others, as well) must deal with tariffs, unless the trade is between members of economic blocks such as NAFTA (North America), EEC(Europe), etc. The global organization dealing with international trade (i.e. import/export) is the WTO.   根据进出口业务的标准程序,西方公司(其他公司也是)必然要处理关税问题,除非是同一经济体成员之间的贸易,如NAFTA(北美自由贸易区),EEC(欧盟)等。 处理全球国际贸易(进口、出口)的世界组织是WTO(世界贸易组织).   英:   In this conversation, Rocky Simons is the owner of a small company that manufactures recreational speedboats.He is having a telephone conversation with Jacques Riviera, owner of a seaside resort in another country. [商务英语]-商务旅行背景知识与词汇

背景知识   在中国,商务旅行一般被称为“出差”。有些时候,目的地的业务相关单位会有人员专门迎接。    一般出差前,公司会有一个较为明确的花费标准。根据出差人员级别,也有相应的出差补助标准。    中国的公司大多派男职员去外地,一是商务旅行强度较大,二是男士出行较为安全、方便。 这也是中国企业在招聘需要经常出差的职位时喜欢聘用男性的原因。    现在中国有许多旅行社专门有针对商务旅行而设的部门,提供商务活动策划、商务旅行组合,做企业的商务助理。而且借助现代资讯手段,采用旅行网站和800电话预定服务,将民用航空公司航线网络、银行金融信用产品、各地域旅游资源和汽车租赁服务公司等核心资源进行了很好的有效链接。因此中国的商务旅行正变得越来越方便。在较大的企业,一般有专门的人员负责安排商务旅行。    2001年10月,中国宣布加入APEC商务旅行卡计划,各大公司的高级管理人员可以只需持一张信用卡大小的商务旅行卡,就可以在亚太经合组织(APEC)12个经济体自由通行,免除了签证等一系列手续。它有助于亚太地区企业家对商机作出迅速反应并提高地区的国际竞争力。 词汇   英:   Expense account    Expenses incurred on the road while performing business duties, receipts for    which should always be kept and then recorded and accounted for in the    appropriate accounting category for reimbursement at a later time.   Company credit    Line of credit that is extended to a corporation for travel related purposes to meet employee expenses for business travel. This can include hotels,    airlines, car rental agencies, premium restaurants, club memberships, etc.   Per diem rates    Daily amount allocated by a company to meet expenses while on the road.    This can include expenses for hotels, dining, etc.   Cash advance    An amount offered to an employee in advance of a business trip to meet    travel expenses.   Itinerary    Itemized schedule of travel events that usually shows an employee’s arrival and departure times across various destinations, hotel stay, meetings and appointments.   Receipt    An official paper or slip for an expense incurred. It is usually the only    acceptable proof of the expense, and the employee must turn it in to be    reimbursed. Includes tolls, dining, taxis, parking, hotel, etc.   Corporate card    Credit card entrusted to an employee to use for business expenses    exclusively. In almost all cases, it is used to meet business travel expenses.    However, there are cases when office staff are also issued these cards to    meet specified office expenses up to a pre-determined amount.   OCS    On Company Service. This refers to any activity you do while representing    the company outside the office, and relates not only to expenses but also to    other items, such as insurance coverage.   Frequent flyer miles    Rewards and bonuses that you receive from a particular airline (or a    consortium of different airlines) for flying on a frequent basis. It is usually    calculated based on the amount of air miles that you are traveling between    destinations. These miles can be redeemed for free tickets and gifts.   Living out of a suitcase    The act of constantly traveling, being on the road and away from home for    extended periods of time. The term refers to having to pack all the necessary    items that you need for travel in a suitcase and not having the comforts of home.   Perks    Fringe benefits that depend on level of position that add further value to your    compensation package. The higher you are in an organization, the more perks    you receive. Perks include country club memberships, company car, housing    allowance, profit sharing and stock options, and better travel allowances. 商务合同英译中必须注意的要点(2)

三、慎重处理合同的关键细目   实践证明,英译合同中容易出现差错的地方,一般来说,不是大的陈述性条款。而恰恰是一些关键的细目.比如:金钱、时间、数量等。为了避免出差错,在英译合同时,常常使用一些有限定作用的结构来界定细目所指定的确切范围。      1、 限定责任  众所周知,合同中要明确规定双方的责任。为英译出双方责任的权限与范围,常常使用连词和介词的固定结构。现把最常用的此类结构举例说明如下。   1)、and/or  常用 and/or英译合同中“甲和乙 甲或乙”的内容,这样就可避免译其中的一个。   例 9:如果上述货物对船舶和(或)船上其它货物造成任何损害,托运人应负全责。   The shipper shall be liable for all damage caused by such goods to the ship and/or cargo on board.   2)、 by and between 常用 by and between强调合同是由“双方”签订的,因此双方必须严格履行合同所赋于的责任。   例 10:买卖双方同意按下述条款购买出售下列商品并签订本合同。   This Contract is made by and between the Buyer and the Seller, whereby the Buyer agrees to buy and the Seller agrees to sell the under-mentioned commodity subject to the terms and conditions stipulated below.   2、限定时间的英译需注意  与时间有关的文字,都应非常严格慎重地处理,因为合同对时间的要求是准确无误。所以英译起止时间时,常用以下结构来限定准确的时间。   1)、 双介词 用双介词英译含当天日期在内的起止时间。   例 11;自 9月 2O日起,甲方已无权接受任何定单或收据。   Party A shall be unauthorized to accept any orders or to collect any account on and after September 20.   例 12:我公司的条件是,3个月内,即不得晚于 5月 1日,支付现金。   Our terms are cash within three months, i.e. on or before May 1.3.2.2 not(no)later than用“not (no) later than 日期”英译“不迟于某月某日”。   例 13:本合同签字之日一个月内,即不迟于 12月 15日,你方须将货物装船。   Party B shall ship the goods within one month of the date of signing this Contract, i.e. not later than December 15.   2)、include的相应形式常用 include的相应形式:inclusive、including和 included,来限定含当日在内的时间。   例 14:本证在北京议付,有效期至 1月 1日。   This credit expires till January 1(inclusive) for negotiation in Beijing. (or: This credit expires till and including January 1 for negotiation in Beijing.)如果不包括 1月 1日在内,英译为 till and not including January 1。   3、 限定金额 为避免金额数量的差?nbsp|、伪造或涂改,英译时常用以下措施严格把关。   1)、 大写文字重复金额 英译金额须在小写之后,在括号内用大写文字重复该金额,即使原文合同中没有大写,英译时也有必要加上大写。在大写文字前加上“SAY",意为“大写”;在最后加上“ONLY".意思为“整”。必须注意:小写与大写的金额数量要一致。   例 16:聘方须每月付给受聘方美元 500元整。   Party A shall pay Party B a monthly salary of US $ 500 (SAY FIVE HUNDRED US DOLLARS ONLY).           2)、 正确使用货币符号英译金额 必须注意区分和正确使用各种不同的货币名称符号。“$"既可代表“美元”,又可代表其它某些地方的货币;而“£”不仅代表“英镑”,又可代表其它某些地方的货币。   必须注意:当金额用数字书写时,金额数字必须紧靠货币符号,例如:Can $891,568,不能写成:Can $ 891,568。另外,翻译的还要特别注意金额中是小数点 (.)还是分节号 (,),因为这两个符号极易引起笔误,稍有疏忽,其后果是不堪设想的。

写作商务信函并不要求您使用华丽优美的词句。所有您需要做的就是,用简单朴实的语言,准确的表达自己的意思,让对方可以非常清楚的了解您想说什么。围绕这一点,我们总结了几方面的内容,希望对您写作商务信函有借鉴作用。   1、口语化   每一封信函的往来,都是您跟收信人彼此之间的一次交流。人都是感性的,所以您需要在您的信函里体现感性的一面。然而很多人都有一种误解,以为写作商务信函就应该用一种特殊的“生意腔”,于是把一封本来应该是热情而友好的信函写得呆板而死气沉沉。他们宁愿写“Your letter has been received”,“Your complaint is being looked into”而不是“I have received your letter”或者“We are looking into your complaint”。其实我们简单的来理解一下,每次信函的往来不就是跟对方进行了一次交谈吗?只不过是把交谈的内容写到了纸上而已。多用一些简单明了的语句,用我/我们做主语,这样才能让我们的信函读起来热情,友好,就象两个朋友之间的谈话那样简单,自然,人性化。      2、语气语调   由于您写的信函都是有其目的性的,所以您信函里所采用的语气语调也应该符合您的目的。在写之前先不妨仔细考虑一下,您写这封信函是想达到一个什么样的目的,您希望对收信人产生一种怎样的影响呢?是歉意的,劝说性的,还是坚决的,要求性的。这完全可以通过信函中的语气语调来表现。        3、礼貌   我们这里所说的礼貌,并不是简单用一些礼貌用语比如your kind inquiry, your esteemed order等就可以的。而是要体现一种为他人考虑,多体谅对方心情和处境的态度。如果本着这样的态度去跟别人交流,那么就算您这次拒绝了对方的要求,也不会因此失去这个朋友,不会影响今后合作的机会。   特别要注意,当双方观点不能统一时,我们首先要理解并尊重对方的观点。如果对方的建议不合理或者对您的指责不公平时,请表现一下您的高姿态,您可以据理力争,说明您的观点,但注意要讲究礼节礼貌,避免用冒犯性的语言。   还要提醒一点,中国人有句话叫做“过犹不及”。任何事情,一旦过了头,效果反而不好。礼貌过了头,可能会变成阿谀奉承,真诚过了头,也会变成天真幼稚。所以最关键的还是要把握好“度”,才能达到预期的效果。   4、简洁   就象前面提到的,要用简洁朴实的语言来写信函,让您的信函读起来简单,清楚,容易理解。用常见的单词,避免生僻或者拼写复杂的单词。一个单词可以表达,就不要用词组。多用短句,因为短句更容易理解。少用“and”,“but”,“however”,“consequently”这些让句子变得冗长的连词。在同一封信函里,不要使用多个相同含义的单词。比如,您前面写了“goods have been sent”,那后面再提到这件事时就不要再用其他单词如“forward”“dispatch”等。因为这样写会误导您的读者无谓地去考虑这些词之间是否另有含义。   5、回复迅速及时   给买家的回复,千万要迅速及时。因为买家通常只看最先收到的几封回复,从中去选择合适的供应商。如果您的回复不够及时,就可能因为抢不到先机而失去商机。   6、标题   这一点是特别针对写电子邮件的。也许很多人都没有意识到,事实上,E-mail的标题是很重要的一个部分,您的邮件给对方的第一个印象就是通过标题来完成的。如果标题没有内容,看起来象群发的垃圾邮件的话,很多买家就会直接删除。比如这样的标题“How are you?” ,“Can we work together?”,建议您改成“Proposal: Bright Ideas Imports--Zhejiang Textile’s Partnership Opportunity”或者“Introduction: Our Product Offerings for Bright Ideas Imports.”这样您的邮件会显得更加专业。   7、精确   当涉及到数据或者具体的信息时,比如时间,地点,价格,货号等等,尽可能做到精确。这样会使交流的内容更加清楚,更有助于加快事务的进程。   8、针对性   请在邮件中写上对方公司的名称,或者在信头直接称呼收件人的名字。这样会让对方知道这封邮件是专门给他的,而不是那种群发的通函,从而表示对此的重视。当然,如果您无法确定收信人的名字,那就在称呼一栏里写“Dear Sirs” or “Dear Sir or Madam”。

在商务英语价格谈判中的英语技巧

一) It is a condition of this letter that the name of this Bank will not be disclosed in the event of our report being passed on to your clients.   译文:本函有一个条件,即在把我们的报告转交你们的客户时,请勿泄露本行的名称。   这段话是出自银行对某项咨询的回复信函。此类复信一般包括三部分:   1?陈述实事;   2)表示意见;   3)提醒对方所提供的资料是绝密及不负责任的。上面的句子属于第三部分。   本句中的it是形式主语,其主语是that……从句。   pass on?hand or give sth to sb else to others?传递;转交   Example?We will pass on your decision to the buyer.   其他表达方式:   1.Please note that this information is furnished without any responsibility on our part and should be held strictly confidential.   2.Please note that the information is furnished at your request without any responsibility whatsoever on the part of this Bank or on any of its officers.   3.May we ask that you treat this information as strictly confidential without responsibility on our part.   (二) Should you be prepared to reduce your limit by say 10% we might come to terms.   译文:如果你方愿意减价,譬如说减10%,也许能达成交易。   这句话是在讨价还价中常用到的句子。在双方的谈判中,价格是一个很重要的环节,婉转地提出自己的意见可以使自己处于主动地位。   say 10%是let us say 10%的简化。   be prepared to……准备做……事   Example?We are not prepared to change the terms.   limit n.限度(在外贸业务中有时用来指价格,即价格限度)   Example:Your limit is too high to permit business.   come to terms达成交易。类似说法有come to business close a bargain close a deal等等。

英:   Grapevine    The process through which information gets spread unofficially    throughout the company. Can be word of mouth, email, or even a    hand-written piece of paper. In most companies, news, rumors,    gossip and information can spread to hundreds or thousands of    employees in a very short time.   Brown-nosing / kissing up / sucking up    Being overly friendly with the boss, or upper management, or    anybody with some power or control, with the intent of getting    favors from them, such as promotions, raises, bonuses, etc. In many    cases, it is possible that there are other employees who merit these    advantages more than the brown-noser.   Back-biting    Malicious talk that undermines someone’s reputation or unfairly    criticizes someone’s work when they’re not around. 英:   Following are some typical questions that an interviewer may ask during a job interview, and some typical responses:    Can you tell me a little more about the Canto project that you did at ABC Incorporated?    Oh, that was a very exciting project. We had to increase sales by 40% during the 2nd quarter, and our results exceeded expectations,even though we were under a lot of pressure.    Why should I hire you?    I feel that my qualifications match your job description. I have a proven track record in resolving problems, multitasking, and dealing with customers, as you can see from my resume.    What can you offer this company? 商务英语常见误译例析

笔者在商务英语教学中发现,外贸英语中有一些使用十分频繁的词汇很容易被误译,原因是商务英语中相同的单词在不同情况下具有不同的含义。现将这些单词的不同用法和含义试加比较说明。   例一:floating   It is not surprising, then, that the world saw a return to a floating exchange rate system. Central banks were no longer required to support their own currencies.   Floating policy is of great importance for export trade; it is, in fact, a convenient method of insuring goods where a number of similar export transactions are intended, e.g. where the insured has to supply an overseas importer under an exclusive sales agreement or maintains sales representatives or subsidiary companies abroad.   译文:   在这种情况下,世界各国又恢复浮动汇率就不足为奇了。 各国中央银行也就无须维持本币的汇价了。   统保单对出口贸易至关重要。它实际上是货物保险中的一种便利的办法,特别适合于分不同的时间出口的一批类似货物,如,当被保险方根据独家代理协议书向国外的进口方供货,或在国外委任了销售代表,设立分支机构时用之。   注解:   floating 在上述两个句中的意思完全不一样,floating exchange rate 意为“浮动汇率”,即可自由浮动,完全受市场力量决定的汇率制度。而 floating policy 则指用以承保多批次货运的一种持续性长期保险凭证,常译为“统保单”。   例二:confirm   We'd like to inform you that our counter sample will be sent to you by DHL by the end of this week and please confirm it ASAP so that we can start our mass production. This Bill of Lading is issued in a negotiable form, so it shall constitute title to the goods and the holder, by endorsement of this B/L.   译文:   招聘兼职酒店保安,工作时间和薪水面议。   所签发的提单可为转让的,故只要在提单上背书, 便确定了货物和持票人的所有权。   注解:   在第一句话中,negotiable 的意思是“可商议的”,在第二句话中的意思则是“可转让的”,“可转让提单”经过背书后即可将所有权转让给他人,值得注意的是,negotiating bank 则是议付银行,即购买或贴现汇票的银行。   例四:discount   You may get a 5% discount if your order is on a regular basis.   If a seller extends credit to a time draft, they have made a trade acceptance.The seller can request that the bank finance the transaction by buying the draft.The bank is said to discount the draft.   译文:   如果你方定期给我方下定单,你方便可得到 5% 的折扣。   如卖方开出的是远期汇票,以此向买方提供信用,此时就做了一笔商业汇票承兑业务,卖方可以请银行买下商业承兑汇票,银行用这个办法对出口商融资,也就是说,银行对该汇票贴现了。   注解:   discount 在这两句话中的意思一个是折扣,另一个是贴现。折扣是指商品在原价的基础上按百分比降价,贴现则是指未到期的票据向银行融资,银行扣取自买进日至到期日的利息,并收取一定的手续费后,将余下的票面金额付给持票人。   例五:endorse   Our products have been endorsed by the National Quality Inspection Association.   Draft must be accompanied by full set original on board marine Bill off Lading made out to order,endorsed in blank,marked freight prepaid.   译文:   我们的产品为全国质量检查协会的推荐产品。    汇票必须附有全套印有“货物收讫”字样的正本海运提单,凭指示、空白背书,并写明“运费已付”。   注解:   在第一个句子中,“推荐”是指用过某种产品后感到满意,并通过媒体介绍给公众。而第二句中的“空白背书明是指背书人 (endorser) 只在票据背面签上自己的名字,而不注明特定的被背书人 (endorsee)。   例六:average   If a particular cargo Is partially damaged,the damage is called particular average.   It's obvious that the products are below the average quality.   译文:   如果某批货是部分受损,我们称之为“单独海损”。   很明显,这批产品的品质是中下水平。   注解:   在第一个句子中,particular average 的意思是“单独海损”,是指在保险业中由于海上事故所导致的部分损失, 因此 average 一词的意思是损失或损坏,而第二句中的 average 为“平均”之意。   例七:tender   Under CIF, it is the seller's obligation to tender the relative documents to the buyer to enable him to obtain delivery of the goods. If they arrive, or to recover for the loss, if they are lost on the voyage.   He became as exhilarated as if his tender for building a mansion had been accepted.   译文:   在 CIF 价格术语项下,卖方的责任是向买方递交有关单证,使其能在货物到达后提取货物;如果货物运输途中丢失了,买方也可凭单证去获取补偿。   他欣喜若狂,好象他承办大厦建筑的投标被接受了。   注解:   商务英语中的重要条款用词非常正规,在第一句话中,tender 是用作动词,相当于 give。而在第二句中,tender 是用作名词,意思是“投标”。

英:   Pay check    An official form issued by a company which can be cashed at designated    financial institutions.   Pay stub    Basically a receipt for record-keeping. Identifies all of the items and    amounts used in calculating the final amount of the pay check.   Pay period   The time covered between pay checks. Can be daily (rare), weekly,monthly, bi-weekly (every 2 weeks), or bi-monthly (twice a month, usually in the middle and end of the month).   Pay rate    An agreed amount that the company pays per unit of time worked or unit of    work done.   Gross    The base employee income for a specified period, based on pay rate. Can be:    Salary (a fixed amount, daily/weekly/monthly, which is adjusted    based on number of days worked/not worked)    Wage (an hourly rate adjusted for the number of hours worked)    Piece (a certain amount for each unit of work done)    The gross income can also be adjusted for items such as commissions and bonuses.   Commissions    Money earned on a regular basis based on previous sales made.   Bonuses   Money paid by the company for various reasons, such as meeting objectives, productivity incentives, special events (e.g. Xmas), etc.   Deductions    Deductions are amounts retained by the company from your gross amount.    They are also commonly referred to as deductions at source. Some of the    more common deductions are:    Income tax (federal, state(U.S.) or provincial(Canada), municipal in    some locations)    Pension (employee contributions for retirement. A common plan in    the United States is the 401K plan).    Medical (to pay for medical insurance. This is more common in    America. In Canada, every citizen is already covered by a    global plan called Medicare, so the company plan most    commonly found there is for dental care, which isn’t    covered by Medicare)    Charity (donations made to a charity of the employee’s choice)   Net    The amount left after all deductions have been made from the gross income.    This is what you finally get to put in your pocket!   Raise    Adjustment of pay rate, usually based on performance, cost of living, or promotion. 英:   The byword for dress in the Western business world is conservative. This means nothing too flashy, too provocative, too casual, too tight or too revealing.   For the ladies, the following dress items are common:    Pant suit    Knee-length skirt or full-length dress    Dress pants    Blouse    Jacket    High-heels    Dress shoes   For men, these are the accepted norms for business attire:    Suit and tie There are many variations on the cut (or style) of the    suit,of course, but the most commonly found cuts are    Italian, Traditional English, and Traditional    American. Many business suits are double-breasted.    A common pattern considered very professional is the    pin-stripe. The recognized business colors are black    and gray (dark or light), but some companies have    established others as their recognized color, such as blue.
